7 Good Reasons for Sleep Disorder Professional Help
Written by Samuel Blue
Can you even remember the last time you had a good night’s sleep? Are you starting to feel like a walking zombie? Are you personal and business relationships starting to suffer?  What about your personal life?  Are you slowly becoming disengaged simply because you do not have the stamina to function properly?  You need to address your sleeping issues. Here are 7 good reasons for getting help to cure your insomnia or get your sleep disorder under control.

Your Health and Well Being

When you only go a few days without sleep, you can usually catch up on the weekend, snag a nap here or there, or do something to get yourself back on track.  But, if you have a chronic sleep disorder, your sleep bank will be constantly making withdrawals and no deposits.

Eventually, your health is going to suffer.  Did you know that people who have sleep apnea have an increased risk of heart attack or stroke, among other health issues?  It is not only your physical health that will ultimately suffer from lack of restful sleep.

Job Safety and Security

When you sleep bank has been cleaned out, your job safety and security may both be at risk.  If you have a job that requires dealing with potentially dangerous equipment, you need to be alert.  One moment of lost concentration, and you or a coworker can be seriously hurt.  For example, if an open pit truck driving coal miner dozes off for even one second, he/she can roll the truck.

In addition, you job security could be in question.  In today’s tight economy, businesses are looking for ways to cut back and save money.  But, they are also striving to be more productive, in order to have an edge on the competition.  So, what happens if you are constantly dozing on the job, or forgetting even the minor details?  You may find yourself demoted or replaced by someone else who is awake enough to get the job done, in the most expedient manner.

Your Tack has Lost its Sharpness

Whether it is a sleeping disorder like sleep apnea, or some other challenge to a restful night of sleep, you are not as sharp as a tack any longer.  In some cases, you are probably just going through the motions of living.  You do absolutely what must be done-nothing more, nothing less. Do coworkers and family members have to call your name more than once, in order to get your attention?  Do you often lose the point of a conversation? Does your mind tend to wander a lot?  Do people get frustrated with you lack of attentiveness?  All of these possible symptoms of a sleep disorder point to the fact that you are not getting enough rest, or you may have some health concerns that need to be addressed.

Oops!

Sleeplessness can often lead to errors in judgment.  Do you find yourself making more mistakes than usual?  Do you constantly have that feeling of frustration that you have already been here and done that, except that it did not work the first time around?  In essence you are spinning your wheels and making more mistakes than usual. Errors in judgment and an increase in mistakes, no matter how small, can be a big symptom of sleep deprivation.

A Short Fuse

If your sleep account is constantly in the red, your emotional fuse becomes so short, you and those you care about the most are going to get burned.  If you are normally a surly individual, maybe no one will notice the difference.  But, if you are normally mild mannered, easy to get along with, and patient, others will begin to notice your emotional deficit. Sleeplessness will eventually affect your personality, in a negative way.  A good night’s sleep gives you a fresh start and the ability to cope with the responsibility of each new day.

Nap Time-Not!

When the body does not get enough sleep at night, it will eventually do what it can to try and catch up.  You might find yourself dozing off in an important meeting, in church, or even when you are behind the wheel of your car. You might be able to cover up the fact in the first two scenarios; but, if you fall asleep while driving, you could pay with your life, or the life of someone else.

In conclusion, a sleeping problem can affect every aspect of your life.  In some cases, it may even take your life.  So, if it is not a temporary thing because of a stuffy nose or a big presentation next week, you need to see a doctor. He/she will probably have even more good reasons why it is great that you are finally getting some professional help for your sleep disorder.
